Office of Proposal Development
The Office of Proposal Development (OPD) was created in 2008 under the Vice President for Research to assist USU researchers in developing stronger and more competitive proposals for submission to sponsors. The OPD’s proposal development activities and resources will focus on projects that are of strategic interest to USU and its units. The ultimate goal of the OPD is to expand revenue created by externally funded research at USU.
The OPD will be comprised of a network of proposal development staff located in the units across campus reporting to a centrally located manager. These individuals will provide a variety of services to their college researchers in addition to pooling their efforts on large, institutionally strategic proposals.
The goal of the OPD network staff is to relieve researchers of the logistics of proposal development to allow them more time to focus on their specialty. To achieve this, the OPD staff can help researchers from beginning to end of the proposal development process, or at any point throughout the process depending on the researcher’s needs and/or wants.
The OPD network staff will also provide detailed training on proposal development to researchers throughout the year. The major training opportunity provided by the OPD is the Proposal Writing Institute that will be held each year in the late spring.
